2008 Pontiac Solstice
2008 Pontiac Solstice
Overview
The 2008 Pontiac Solstice stands out for its attractive styling, good performance and affordable price tag. For the current year, the Solstice is available in a base trim and a turbo-charged GXP version. The latter is equipped with the club sport package, which helps firmer suspension tuning.
Power and Performance
The 2008 base Solstice is powered by a 177-horsepower, 2.4-liter, four-cylinder engine; while the GXP's 2.0-liter four-cylinder produces 260 horsepower. Both engines have the choice of a standard five-speed manual transmission (MT) or a five-speed automatic. Rear-wheel drive is standard on the Solstice. The base Solstice races up to 60 mph in 7.7 seconds, while the MT version of the GXP races to 60 mph within 5.8 seconds. The fuel economy of the base MT model is 19/25 mpg (city/highway), while the GXP MT version gives 19/28 mpg (city/highway).
Body and Styling
The 2008 Pontiac is pure roadster in every detail: the sinuous lines, swooping curves, athletic stance, hydroformed hood, sculpted deck lid and driver-oriented cockpit. Standard features include a stainless steel exhaust, remote keyless entry, single-zone manual air conditioner, power windows, cruise control, electric defogger, manual and power door locks, driver information center, audio system with AM/FM stereo and six-disc in-dash CD changer and MP3 playback, XM Radio, OnStar, and rearview mirror with dual reading lights. The GXP version features silver-painted wheels.
Safety Features
Every 2008 Solstice comes with standard four-wheel disc brakes, three-point safety belts, power height seat adjustment, a theft-deterrent system, tire-pressure monitoring system, and a tire repair kit that includes inflator and tire sealant. Anti-braking system is standard on the GXP and optional on the base Solstice. The former is available with stability control, which is optional on the base model.
