The reinvented 2008 Buick LaCrosse is a midsize family sedan that offers a smooth ride and cozy interiors. It is available in CX, CXL, CXS and Super trim levels. LaCrosse Super has been added for 2008. Additional features for LaCrosse include fender 'portholes', unique front and rear styling, and dual chrome-tipped exhaust outlets.
Power and Performance
The CX and CXL are powered by a 3.8-liter, V-6 engine that churns out 200 horsepower; while a 3.6-liter DOHC V-6 engine pumps out 240 horsepower in the CXS. The Super is equipped with a V-8 engine that boasts 300 horsepower and comes with sportier suspension tuning, larger wheels and brakes. All trims have a standard front-wheel drive with a four-speed automatic transmission. The CX and CXL achieve 17 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway; the CXS records 17/25 mpg (city/highway); and the Super clocks 16/24 mpg (city/highway).
Body and Styling
The LaCrosse offers seats for six with soft leather upholstery. The dash is stylish, with faux wood trim across its length. The cabin offers storage bins and cubbies, and the trunk capacity is 16 cubic feet. The Super offers leather seating with unique woven inserts, while a sunroof and CD changer are optional.
Safety features
The LaCrosse features standard side-curtain air bags, OnStar communication and anti-lock disc brakes. A stability control system is standard on CXS and Super trims and optional on the CXL. In frontal-impact crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the LaCrosse earned five stars for driver and front passenger protection. In Insurance Institute for Highway Safety testing, it received the best-possible 'Good' rating for frontal-offset crash safety.
